Arizona Diamondbacks
Even though the D’Backs are one of the newest major league baseball franchises, they still have been able to acquire some enemies. Yankees fan. In 2001, Arizona prevented the Yankees from winning their 27th World Series with a game-winning hit by Luis Gonzalez in Game 7.
Atlanta Braves
While the Braves are currently a fan-friendly team with favorites like Ronald Acuna, Spencer Strider, and Sean Murphy, it has not always been that way. Their consistent winning ways in the 90s grew tiresome with baseball fans leaving a sour taste in fans’ mouths.
Baltimore Orioles
Some Washington Nationals fans are not big fans of the Orioles due to Baltimore’s owner Peter Angelos opposing the move of the Montreal Expos to the Washington area because he believed the move would hurt his fan base and him financially. Rich people’s problems…..

Boston Red Sox
You would be hard-pressed to find a New York Yankees fan who has anything pleasant to say about the Red Sox. The hatred between the Yankees and Red Sox fan base is second to none. The over-100-year-old rivalry stems from “The Curse of The Bambino” when the Red Sox sold Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees for $100,000.00.
Chicago Cubs
Cubs fans are hated by two separate fan bases (the Chicago White Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals). Sox fans have developed a cross-town rivalry with their fellow Chicago team while their rivalry with the Cardinals has been known as the “Route 66 Rivalry” or the “I-55 Rivalry”.
Chicago White Sox
Speaking of the White Sox, their hatred by fans goes all the way back to 1919 which is more commonly known as the “Black Sox Scandal”. In one of the biggest black eyes in baseball history, eight members of the Chicago White Sox were accused of throwing the 1919 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for money.
Cincinnati Reds
The Reds are constantly referred to as being noncontenders and cheap. Former owner Marge Schott was criticized for not spending the money to build the Reds into contenders. Schott operated on one of the smallest and lowest-paid front office staff in the major leagues and was said to turn the heat down and lights off to save electricity. Also, add that the Reds have only seen the postseason three times since 1991 leaving many fans of baseball disgusted.
Cleveland Guardians/Indians
In 2021, The baseball team known as the Cleveland Indians since 1915 changed their name to the Cleveland Guardians amid a public backlash. The perception by fans was extremely mixed as many fans were angered over losing their mascot “Chief Wahoo” while others just downright disliked the Guardians name.
Colorado Rockies
The Monfort Brothers. Charles and Richard Monfort are the primary owners of the Rockies. During their tenure, the Rockies have made the playoffs only four times while having just five winning seasons from 2005 to 2023 along with trading away allstars such as Nolan Arenado and DJ LeMahieu.
Detroit Tigers
The city of Detroit has faced a decade-long population decrease due to violent crimes, and social, and economic problems leaving it as one of the least desired cities to reside in. A history of ecological disregard has made the city hazardous. Environmental issues such as air pollution, waste recycling and contaminated lakes are of major concern. If that isn’t reason enough, Javier Baez plays for them and is hated by most fan bases including the Tigers.
Houston Astros
The 2017 Houston Astros World Series win will forever be tainted amidst sign stealing, video cameras, and trash can banging. Baseball fans have not forgotten and to this day, many of the current Astros players as well as former Astros are booed relentlessly for their participation in the events.
Kansas City Royals
The Royals are a rather boring franchise. They lack a true rival in their division and currently are the worst team in Major League Baseball. They lack star power outside of Bobby Witt Jr and Salvador Perez and their farm system is ranked near the bottom so it appears years of mediocre baseball is on the way….. Woohoo!
Los Angeles Angels
The Angels were destroying the prime careers of Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani with their terrible roster decisions and play. Both of these players are generational talents while the rest of the team appears to be a laughing stock. Now Ohtani has moved to the Dodgers and you would be hard-pressed to find someone who would blame him for leaving the Angels.
Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers were ranked as the #1 most hated team in baseball for the 2023 season based on negative comments from Twitter. This could be due to the fact of how successful the Dodgers have been in recent memory or it could also be the concept of how fans view the Dodgers buying talent to win Championships.
Miami Marlins
If the Dodgers are hated for buying talent, then It is too easy to hate the Marlins for selling all their talent including Christian Yelich, Giancarlo Stanton, Miguel Cabrera, JT Realmuto, Marcell Ozuna, Dontrelle Willis, and Zac Gallen are just some of the few players who used to call Miami home.
Milwaukee Brewers
If you need a reason to hate the Milwaukee Brewers, look no further than former NL MVP Ryan Braun. When he tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs and was suspended, instead of admitting his mistakes, he decided to place the blame on the person who administered the test and accused the collector of being an anti-semitic Cubs Fan.
Minnesota Twins
Carlos Correa. Correa, who is currently a Minnesota Twin, drew a lot of bad blood while playing for the Houston Astros en route to the franchise’s first World Series title in 2017. Carlos Correa was a centerpiece in the scandal and also quickly became a hated ballplayer after his admission to cheating.
New York Mets
It is hard to find a team that makes worse financial decisions than the New York Mets. Recently with massive contracts to aging pitchers Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer (neither are on the team anymore), the Mets are still on the hook for roughly 85 million dollars on their contracts for them to pitch elsewhere. Let’s not forget July 1st which is now infamously known as Bobby Bonilla Day.
New York Yankees
When you think of baseball villains, the first team that should jump into your mind is the Evil Empire New York Yankees. Backed with an endless budget to buy players, the Yankees have won the most World Series titles with 27 behind big-ticket free-agent signings.
Oakland A’s
It’s plain to see that Oakland A’s owner John Fisher wants to be the most hated man in baseball. Playing in the worst stadium in baseball, it appears Fisher is doing everything possible to move this team to Las Vegas by trading away every bit of talent that walks in the door as they manage the lowest payroll in all of professional baseball.
Philadelphia Phillies
Bryce Harper has been destroyed by the Philadelphia fanbase and baseball fans in general. Harper was hyped as a can’t-miss prospect since high school. Fans viewed Harper as overrated and that view was amplified after signing a 13-year-330 million dollar contract with Philadelphia. Many claim his contract to be one of the worst contracts in baseball history.
Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates are another small market team that cannot afford to keep their star players like Barry Bonds and Gerrit Cole to name a few. It’s a shame that they haven’t sniffed the playoffs since 2015 or a winning record since 2018, and they are home to one of the nicest stadiums in baseball.
San Diego Padres
Fernando Tatis Jr. In 2022, Tatis was suspended 80 games for testing positive for Clostebol, a performance-enhancing substance. While claiming he took the drug to treat “ringworm”, MLB fans are not buying the excuse with their hatred towards Tatis and have labeled him a cheater.
San Francisco Giants
It’s hard to find a more hated baseball player than former Giants slugger and “home run king” Barry Bonds. While Bonds holds the record for most career home runs (762) and home runs in a season (73), both come with an asterisk due to his involvement in performance-enhancing drugs.
Seattle Mariners
The Mariners constantly fall short of fan expectations. With superstars like Ken Griffey Jr, Alex Rodriguez, Julio Rodriguez, Jay Buhner, Randy Johnson, Felix Hernandez, Ichiro Suzuki, Edgar Martinez, Tino Martinez, and Lou Pinella, you would suspect a few World Series wins. However, the Mariners currently have never won a World Series and are the only active franchise to never reach it.
St. Louis Cardinals
You would be hard-pressed to find a Chicago Cubs fan who has anything nice to say about the St. Louis Cardinals. Also, one of their most famous players is another notable cheater, Mark McGwire.
Tampa Bay Rays
A sneaky rivalry is building between the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees. While most fans seem to enjoy the Rays, Yankees fans don’t seem to share the same view. It could be due to the fact that the Rays constantly operate on a payroll significantly less than the Yankees and continue to contend in the AL East.
Texas Rangers
You can hate the Rangers for signing one of the biggest cheaters in baseball history Alex Rodriguez to at the time the biggest baseball contract in history (10 year 252 million dollar deal) or you can hate them for turning around and trading him to the Evil Empire New York Yankees and help secure another Yankees World Series win. The choice is yours.
Toronto Blue Jays
Like him or hate him, Jose Bautista was a force to be reckoned with for the Toronto Blue Jays. Unfortunately, Joey Bats was mostly hated by MLB fans. Whether he was pimping a homerun or getting a right hook to the jaw by Roughned Odor, there was always something happening with Bautista during his Blue Jays stint.
Washington Nationals
The Nationals’ handling of Stephen Strasburg’s retirement is disgusting. The former #1 pick and 2019 World Series MVP was set to be the next dominant pitcher but constant injuries derailed the once promising career forcing him to retire. The Nationals ownership failed to host a retirement ceremony for Strasburg leaving Nationals fans missing out on an opportunity to celebrate Strasburg one last time.
