Alex Verdugo and the New York Yankees have parted ways since the team moved ahead by signing other stars. Verdugo started out well in 2024, but his inconsistency seemed to have cost him. Not many teams have shown interest in Verdugo, but things seem to be slowly turning around.
The Yankees have enough players, and there’s no chance of bringing Verdugo back. With Anthony Rizzo still on the free agent market, Verdugo’s chances of signing with the team are somewhat doubtful. The good news is that a couple of teams are showing interest in the outfielder.
The San Diego Padres are predicted to be in on Alex Verdugo. The Padres missed out on Roki Sasaki, Tanner Scott, and a few other players this offseason. San Diego lost a few targets to their NL West Division rival, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Padres are trying to cut their payroll and have not offered Jurickson Profar a contract. Verdugo is looking to find a home soon. The outfielder will be affordable in San Diego, especially since they have room for an outfielder and an extra left-handed slugger.
Pittsburgh Pirates Reportedly Interested In Alex Verdugo
The Pittsburgh Pirates are trying to cook something new with Andrew McCutchen’s return. Along with Paul Skenes and a few other stars, the Pirates will look to a stronger season. The franchise acquired Spencer Horwitz to bolster its offense, but it hasn’t done much this offseason.
Adding a few sluggers will help the team emerge as a contender in the NL Central Division. Verdugo is not an expensive option for Pittsburgh to consider. The slugger is young and has a decent amount of postseason experience.

A one-year deal will be the perfect option for the Pirates. Alex Verdugo needs time to prove himself. Playing with a low-pressurized team like the Pirates will certainly help him improve. Additionally, he will be a decent fit for the team, especially since they want an affordable option.
Verdugo can be a strong outfielder by adding depth to their rotation. Apart from Verdugo, Max Scherzer, and a few other stars are picking up the pace with rumors swirling around them.
