Fans are reacting to a revelation about a diagnosis by former MLB star Alex Rodriguez.
The erstwhile shortstop was on CBS Mornings on Wednesday and revealed he was recently diagnosed with early-stage gum disease.
“Looks can be deceiving,” the 47-year-old said smiling. “I just recently went to see my dentist and not thinking anything about any gum disease. And the dentist tells me the news, and then I come to find out over 65 million Americans have this gum disease.”

Others didn’t think this was newsworthy given that gum disease is very common among Americans.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that almost half of adults 30 years and older have some form of gum disease, while it’s even more common in adults over the age of 65.
A-Rod has partnered with OraPharma, a health product company, to help raise awareness and is urging folks to take care of their teeth and see dentists regularly.
The former star, who played for the Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers, and New York Yankees, is a three-time MVP, having dominated baseball for over two decades. He registered 696 home runs over the course of his career and won a World Series with NY in 2009.
His legacy is tainted by a PED scandal that resulted in him getting suspended for a year, though.
