![Alex Bregman’s Free Agency Update Takes A New Twist](https://www.totalprosports.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Alex-Bregman-2-1024x563.jpg)
Alex Bregman’s free agency takes an unexpected turn as spring training nears. Bregman is the best third baseman who’s a free agent. The slugger was about to re-sign with the Houston Astros, but the team was unable to match his offer.
Bregman wants a long-term contract with a team that has a potential future. Despite teams bidding for the slugger, none could match his requirements, at least for now. Around five teams were in on Bregman. The Cubs, Astros, Blue Jays, Yankees, and Tigers were considered as top prospects. The Yaks and Astros seem to have dropped out, and the Cubs were said to be a huge favorite.
However, the latest update has reduced the Chicago Cubs’ chance of pursuing Alex Bregman. The Cubs are now dropping out of the race for the All-Star slugger. Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer mentioned that not all rumors have foundation.
“We’re in the entertainment business, and sometimes rumors come out that have no foundation. You’ll see entire articles, thousands of words long, based on something that was never even discussed,” Hoyer said.

Hoyer further mentioned that the Cubs are focusing on players already in the camp. It’s unclear if they will continue their pursuit of Alex Bregman.
“You always look for opportunity. Right now, we have a meeting this afternoon, and we’re gonna focus on the guys who are in camp. That’s the plan. Offseasons will drift later,” Hoyer said via Clutch Points.

Tigers, Blue Jays, And Astros Predicted To Be The Top Landing Spots For Alex Bregman
With the Chicago Cubs out of the race, the Tigers, Blue Jays, and Astros are predicted to be Breggy’s top landing spots. The Astros still have an offer on the table, which Bregman seems to be turning down. The franchise reportedly increased their previous offer in hopes of bringing him back home.
Bregman’s agent, Scott Boras, plays a vital role in his contract. The Astros have $160 million on the table for the next six years, but Bregman wants something more, close to $200 million. The Boston Red Sox are another team still in on Bregman’s sweepstakes.
The Red Sox need one more star slugger to their lineup. However, paying $200 million is still doubtful. Alex Bregman might still be a free agent during spring training as time passes. On the other hand, Kike Hernandez has agreed to a one-year deal with the Dodgers. MLB fans are frustrated with the team for signing all top players.
