A massive trade proposal has the Toronto Blue Jays sending franchise superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in a three-team deal that would drastically alter the 2024 World Series race.
The Blue Jays (39-47) have been one of the biggest disappointments in baseball this season, and they look poised to sell at the upcoming July 30 trade deadline. And if they decide to begin a full-scale rebuild, no player would garner a stronger return than Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
The second-generation MLB star has been one of the few positives for the Blue Jays this year. He’s batting .297 (currently the second-best mark of his career) with 13 homers, 50 RBI, a .470 slugging percentage, and a .844 OPS.
Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller proposed a mammoth three-team trade between the Blue Jays, Houston Astros and Cleveland Guardians. In Miller’s proposal, the Astros would get Vladimir Guerrero Jr., outfielder Kevin Kiermaier and veteran pitcher Chris Bassit from Toronto plus pitcher Parker Messick from Cleveland.
The Jays would deal shortstop Bo Bichette, pitcher Yusei Kikuchi and catcher Danny Jansen to Cleveland. The Astros would send outfielder Colin Barber to the Guardians as well.
As for the Jays? They’d get pitcher Cristian Javier from Houston and three of their top prospects in outfielder Jacob Melton, shortstop Brice Matthews and pitcher Jake Bloss, plus Cleveland prospects in outfielder Chase DeLauter and righty Daniel Espino:
“Houston is giving up more capital than Cleveland in the deal, but the Guardians’ top prospect is regarded as a top-25 guy while the Astros’ top prospect is barely a top-75 guy. Houston is also getting more than Cleveland, as Guerrero is the more coveted of Toronto’s two big-name chips, while Bassitt still has a year left on his deal compared to Kikuchi being a few months away from free agency.
The moral of the story, though, is that Toronto has become the linchpin of this entire trade deadline.
If the Blue Jays embrace what is very clearly a seller’s market otherwise lacking in marquee names available, they could put together a monster of a trade / series of trades, likely getting more in return than the Nationals did for 2.5 years of Juan Soto two summers ago.”

Well, this move would certainly go a long way in helping the Blue Jays’ rebuild while enhancing the Astros’ and Guardians’ chances of winning it all.
The Blue Jays have not indicated that they’re willing to deal Guerrero Jr. and/or Bichette this year. But if they get offers close to Miller’s suggested range, the Toronto front office will have to consider trading both.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Is Signed Through 2025
The Blue Jays have Guerrero Jr. under team contract through 2025, so they don’t have to make a decision on his future right away. If an extension isn’t an option for next year, the Blue Jays can look to deal “Vladdy” during the winter, when his market will be at its peak.
