Two people were shot at Guaranteed Rate Field following a Chicago White Sox game on August 25th.
Following the game between the White Sox and the Oakland Athletics, a 42-year-old woman was shot in the leg and a 26-year-old woman was grazed on her abdomen by a bullet, according to the Chicago Police Department. The 42-year-old was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center.
The Chicago Police Department and the White Sox Security staff is cooperating in an investigation. It is currently unknown if the shooting took place within the ball park or outside of it. Police also noted that this was not an active shooter threat. According to White Sox security, the incident was not sparked by an altercation.
The post game concert featuring Vanilla Ice and Tone Loc was cancelled following the shooting, with fans being offered a refund. Following the shooting, there is no plans to cancel tonight’s game against the Oakland, as this wasn’t a mass threat.
The White Sox lost the game 12-4, and look to rebound against the Athletics tonight. The White Sox, who are 50-79 on the season, lost to the worst team in the American League.
The MLB has been in contact with the Chicago White Sox as well as local authorities, but no other details were released.
