Nick Dunlap and making history are becoming synonymous. The 20-year-old American shot a brilliant, bogey-less final round of 9 under 62 to seize his second PGA Tour win at Tahoe Mountain Club. While he already achieved a massive feat with a win at the American Express earlier this year, his Barracuda Championship victory added another feather to his cap.
When Dunlap won the American Express in January, he became the first amateur golfer to lift a PGA Tour title in 33 years. Now, his 2 points win over Vince Whaley earned him another accolade that even the legendary Tiger Woods failed to achieve. The Huntsville native became the first golfer to win PGA Tour titles as an amateur and professional in the same year.
Barracuda Championship’s highlighting moment was when Dunlap sunk a sensational 55-foot eagle putt on the 15th hole. Moreover, his five-pointer eagle putt was undoubtedly a testament to his abilities.
Nick Dunlap Feels Honored After Achieving The Massive Feat
The 20-year-old American did give a glimpse of his golfing skills after he won the American Express in January 2024. However, six missed-cut performances following his victory gave him a sense of self-doubt.
However, the young American prodigy is now the first player to win as a professional and amateur in single on the PGA Tour. And this record meant an honor to him. In the winner’s press conference, Dunlap said,
“I never thought that I would have my name next to that, but it’s definitely an honor. It’s been a little tough after AmEx. You kind of lose a little bit of confidence and wonder if you can do it again.”
