One Las Vegas sports bettor has been fuming for almost a year after he placed a wager on golfer Joel Moscatel to be the first-round leader at the 2023 Australian PGA Championship.
The gambler, whose name hasn’t been made public, placed $200 on Moscatel to win at odds of +20,000.
The bettor would walk away with a $40,000 victory if it played out perfectly.
That is exactly what happened, but once he went to claim his winnings, he would be shortchanged considerably by the Caesars Entertainment-owned sportsbook, The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
He should’ve gotten $40,200, but he would soon find out that he was only getting $1,000 after the sportsbooks suddenly changed the odds to +400 after the sports bettor won.
The little-known Spanish golfer was ranked 1,162nd in the world at the time that bettor placed a wager on him, but he certainly played like a top golfer on that day, which should’ve resulted in an insane payout.
Moscatel reportedly shot a course record-equaling round of 62 on the championship’s opening day as he nailed eight birdies in his bogey-free round.

The sports bettor has now requested a patron dispute hearing with the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
William Hill’s response to regulators says the company will not cancel the initial wager because of the “obvious errors” in setting the odds.
They added that house rules enable it to make those changes in the event of a mistake.
In its terms for correcting errors, William Hill posts a notice that says, “We reserve the right, pending regulatory approval, to correct any obvious error made on a wager placed in one of our betting Live markets and settle at the correct odds or terms, which were available with William Hill Sportsbook (absent the obvious error) at the time the wager was struck. … Where the incorrect odds or terms are less advantageous than those available with William Hill Sportsbook, the odds or terms will be amended to the correct odds or terms available.”
Being A Sports Bettor Is Not For The Weak
Placing wagers on sports is not for everybody.
There has never been a time in history when being a sports bettor has become so easy.
Many use this method of placing bets as a side hustle, but in reality, the majority of people will never be successful in the long term, and we are just creating people with nasty gambling habits.
