Masters champion and world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler has recalled his ordeal following his surprising arrest.
The 27-year-old had an encounter with police early Friday morning outside of Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville while attempting to make his way to the second round of the PGA Championship.
A pedestrian was unfortunately struck and killed by a tournament shuttle bus, causing a traffic jam. Scheffler attempted to drive past a police officer to get to the course. He was stopped, handcuffed, and taken into custody.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, who saw what happened, the officers had no idea who Scheffler was.
Darlington later described the shocking scene on television, claiming one of the lawmen hung on to the golfer’s car while he was still driving. Scheffler drove for another 10 yards or so before stopping. He also revealed Scheffler asked him for help.

Speaking to reporters thereafter, Scheffler admitted he was shaking for an hour afterward and his head was still spinning. He claimed to have done his warmup stretches inside his cell.
“It was a chaotic situation and a big misunderstanding. My head is still spinning,” he said.
“I spent some time warming up in a jail cell, which was a first for me. I was a bit rattled and I was shaking.
Scheffler revealed that the policemen treated him well and joked with him while he was being processed after finding out who he was, with an older one asking whether he wanted the full jail experience before offering him a sandwich.
“The officers in jail were great and very kind. I was pretty rattled, to say the least… I was never angry, I was just in shock. I was shaking for about an hour.”
Scheffler has been charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic, according to reports.
He claimed it was all a misunderstanding as he thought he was following the directions he received.
