Golf fans are ripping on Sky Sports announcer and former pro golfer Mark Roe over his comments on Tiger Woods during round one of The Open Championship on Thursday.
The 48-year-old Tiger Woods has battled numerous injuries and health issues over the past decade, unfortunately derailing his chances of catching up to Jack Nicklaus for the most major victories.
Woods, who has won The Open Championship thrice, is part of the field for this year’s tournament that’s being held at the legendary Royal Troon Golf Club in the town of Troon in South Ayrshire, Scotland.
During round one of The Open, Roe speculated that Tiger Woods is on “a lot of painkillers” after catching a look at his eyes:
For those unaware, Tiger Woods was arrested for driving under the influence in May 2017. It was discovered that he had five drugs in his system at the time of his arrest, and the golfing icon subsequently went to rehab to treat a painkiller addiction.
Golf fans destroyed Roe for his comments on Woods, with some interpreting it as an unnecessary shot at the legend’s struggles with painkiller addiction:

Woods shot 8-over (79) in the opening round, meaning it will take a vintage Tiger performance on Friday if he’s to make the cut. Daniel Brown (6-under) has a one-shot lead over 37-year-old Shane Lowry after round one.
Tiger Woods’ Determination Is Nothing Short Of Admirable
Given his age and injury history, Woods has awfully low odds of catching Nicklaus and his 18 majors. Still, the fact Woods is still playing golf despite his long list of significant injuries and health scares is a win in itself.
Woods’ legacy as one of the all-time greats was cemented nearly two decades ago. He has nothing else to prove as he approaches his 50th birthday, so it’s nothing short of inspiring to see him giving it all on the greens at this phase of his career.
