In a move that caught countless golf fans by surprise, Tiger Woods and Nike announced back in January that they were ending their 27-year partnership. The agreement that lasted almost 30 years netted Woods a reported $660 million.
After the split, it was announced that Woods launched a new clothing line with TaylorMade called “Sun Day Red.”
As a professional, Woods has always worn a red shirt and black pants for the final round of golf tournaments, which usually fall on Sundays. And so led to the beloved “Sunday Red” tradition, Woods’ signature outfit for so many of his iconic moments on the greens.
Tiger Woods Is Trying To Make History At Augusta
After going 11 years without a major victory, Tiger Woods finally broke through again by winning the Masters as a 43-year-old in 2019.
That marked Woods’ fifth victory at Augusta (1997, 2001, 2002, 2005 and 2019) trailing only Jack Nicklaus (six) for the most green jackets. The late Arnold Palmer is the only other golfer to have won the Masters at least four times.
Only Nicklaus (18) has won more majors than Woods (15). The latter, of course, won 14 of those majors over an 11-year period from 1997 to 2008. Woods was on pace to shatter Nicklaus’ records before a plethora of injuries and his well-publicized cheating scandal and divorce prompted him to take time away from golf.
Woods is highly unlikely to match Nicklaus at this phase of his career, but we’ll see if he can at least manage to tie Nicklaus’ record for the most Masters victories.
