This year’s U.S. Open isn’t off to a great start.
The event is being held at the Los Angeles Country Club for the first time and it appears fans just aren’t loving the venue.
With players setting course records in the opening round, there were concerns that the weekend could be a bit dry. It appears fears weren’t unfounded as the tournament is already being criticized for fostering an atmosphere leaving lots to be desired.
“I’ve heard club championship matches get louder first-tee applause than Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka and Hideki Matsuyama at the United States Open,” Barstool Sports’ Dan Rapoport tweeted.
And many fans seemed to agree.

Golf has indeed seen better times. The sport is still reeling from the recent announcement noting the merger between the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour, and LIV Golf. The deal is being investigated by the U.S. Senate, so nothing’s sure just yet.
Current world No. 2 Jon Rahm has called out the powers that be within the PGA Tour, echoing sentiments of betrayal. Rahm turned down an offer of $200 million to join LIV and is among golfers who spurned lucrative proposals only to have the tour embarrass them.
Given the ongoing probe, the future of the tour remains uncertain. We’ll just have to wait and see how things pan out. In the meantime, here’s the U.S. Open.
