Footage of Scottie Scheffler’s traffic incident arrest will soon be released, according to Louisville, Kentucky Mayor Craig Greenberg.
In the early hours of Friday morning, Scottie Scheffler was arrested by Louisville Metro police after disregarding signals from a traffic officer. Scheffler was on his way to the Valhalla Golf Club for round two of the 2024 PGA Championship tournament.
Authorities stopped traffic following the tragic death of a man who was hit by a bus while crossing a street. According to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, Scheffler was released from custody shortly before 9 a.m. EST, and he managed to make his tee time.
Per Schlabach, Scheffler faces the following charges:
“Scheffler faces charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic. The assault charge is a felony; the others are misdemeanors.”
According to WDRB in Louisville, Mayor Greenberg stated that there is no police bodycam footage of Scheffler’s arrest. However, a nearby street camera was able to capture the incident, and Greenberg stated that it will be released:
“The officer did not have a bodycam footage turned on during the incident we will release the footage that we have,. We did not have any…to my knowledge. We have not discovered any video of the initial contact between officer Gillis and Mr. Scheffler.”
Greenberg said there’s footage from across the street from a fixed camera of when Scheffler was arrested and that’ll soon be released.”

Scheffler gave his side of the story in an Instagram post, claiming it was simply a “misunderstanding” and not his intention to disregard traffic instructions:
The No. 1 ranked golfer in the world has had a 2024 to remember thus far. Scheffler and his wife, Meredith, welcomed their first child just weeks after he won his second Masters tournament and green jacket in three years.
The 2024 PGA Championship tournament will wrap on Sunday. Brooks Koepka, now a part of LIV Golf, is the reigning champion.
Scottie Scheffler Hasn’t Been Fazed By The Incident
Scheffler’s performance at Valhalla through three days suggests that he hasn’t been at all distracted by his arrest and the publicity that followed.
The two-time Masters winner shot an impressive 66 in round two, one day after he shot a 67. Unfortunately, a tough outing on Saturday dropped Sheffler well out of the running for first place, so it looks like he’ll fall short of a second straight major.
