A security guard was found deceased after falling at a Massachusetts country club that is set to host the U.S. Open golf tournament.
The victim, David C. McConnell, fell from an area of decking with no railings behind a tent at some point during the night, the Norfolk County District Attorney’s office said.
Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey’s office reported that co-workers found the 60-year-old’s body the next morning, according to the Boston Globe.
“Initial information indicates that he had been working an overnight security shift at the site. Injuries and evidence at the scene suggest that he may have fallen from a decking area behind a tent that did not have railings present. OSHA responded to the scene to open a workplace safety investigation,” the D.A.’s office continued.
The Country Club said McConnell was hired by the U.S. Golf Association.
“The Country Club is deeply saddened by the tragedy that occurred earlier today. Our thoughts and prayers are with the individual and his family,” a spokesperson for The Country Club wrote in a statement.
Foul play is not suspected and the state medical examiner will determine an official cause and manner of death.
