Steven Romines, the attorney of Scottie Scheffler, has provided a significant update on his client’s case following the golfer’s controversial arrest last week.
Scottie Scheffler was arrested last Friday during his commute to the Valhalla Golf Course in Louisville, Kentucky for the second round of the PGA Championship. Traffic had been stalled by authorities after a male pedestrian was tragically hit and killed by a bus while crossing the street.
Scheffler stated that he was simply confused and misunderstood the instructions from the officer directing traffic. The No. 1 golfer in the world was later charged.
While speaking to reporters on Thursday, Romines stated that his client “didn’t do anything wrong”, via the Golf Channel. Scheffler also has no interest in pursuing a case settlement, Romines added.
“We’re not interested in settling the case. We will either try it, or it will be dismissed…All the evidence that continues to come out just continues to support what Scottie said all along. This was a chaotic situation and miscommunication, and he didn’t do anything wrong…
Our position remains the same. It will either be dismissed, or we’ll go to trial.”

Footage of Scottie Scheffler’s footage was released to the public. Bryan Gillis, the officer who arrested Scheffler, failed to follow the police department’s protocols by failing to have his bodycam on. Louisville Metro Police Department Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel told reporters today that Gillis is facing “corrective action” for this.
Scheffler was able to make his tee time on Friday. He shot 66 in round two and finished with a score of eight under, placing him in a four-way tie for eighth place with Billy Horschel, Robert McIntyre and Justin Thomas. Xander Schaufelle won the event after tallying a birdie on the final hole to finish 21 under.
Scottie Scheffler Can Finally Move Past This
Scheffler and his attorney are obviously highly confident that the case will not go to trial. The fact he isn’t even planning to pursue a settlement is a clear-cut indicator that the No. 1 golfer on the planet wants to just move past it.
The soon-to-be 28-year-old just had his first child and recently celebrated his second Masters victory in four years. A simple misunderstanding with authorities during a chaotic traffic scene will not affect what has already been a special year for Scheffler, who can now turn his focus to next month’s U.S. Open.
