As Rory McIlroy gets ready for round one of the RBC Canadian Open on Thursday, the 35-year-old is working through the process of a divorce from his wife, Erica Stoll.
Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll have been married since 2017 and have a daughter together. Earlier this month, it was reported that the golf superstar was filing for divorce in Palm Beach County, Florida.
According to court documents, via Mark Tighe of the Belfast Telegraph, McIlroy performed a savage move by not personally delivering the divorce papers to Stoll. Rather, he had a private investigator do it on his behalf:
“Divorce papers were served on Erica Stoll by a private investigator for Rory McIlroy, court documents have revealed.
The Holywood golfer filed papers to divorce Stoll, his wife of seven years, on May 13. According to court filings in Palm Beach County in Florida, the marriage is “irretrievably broken”.”
Apparently, the divorce papers were given to Stoll by Carl Woods, a former Palm Beach police officer. Woods now runs his own practice.
Rory McIIroy has developed a strong reputation with a good guy image, but plenty of fans on social media were disgusted to learn how he went about the process of divorcing Stoll:
