Happy Gilmore is going to Ball State University!
No, not the Happy Gilmore who was played by Adam Sandler and beat Shooter McGavin for the Gold Jacket in the 1996 hit film.
Rather, we’re talking about Landon James Gilmore, the Bloomington, Indiana high schooler who earned the nickname “Happy” after winning a long-drive contest — and subsequently became a social media sensation.
On Friday, Gilmore announced that we would be continuing his golf career at Ball State University.
The congratulations poured in quickly for the young golfer. But one congratulatory Tweet clearly stood out among the rest.
It was from none other than the original Happy Gilmore himself, Adam Sandler.

Getting a golf scholarship is pretty cool, but the young Gilmore seemed to be even more excited about the response from Sandler.
It can be tough playing in the shadow of a former Gold Jacket winner with the same name, but the real Happy Gilmore appears to be on his way towards making a name for himself in the golf world.
Landon made a name for himself last year, when he went viral while attempting to qualify for the US Open as an amateur. He’s currently ranked within the top 500 among junior boys amateurs, and his 66 at the US Open qualifying proves that he’s more than just a cool name. The kid can play!
