Two-time major champion Jon Rahm is withdrawing from the upcoming US Open after suffering a gruesome-sounding toe injury.
The 29-year-old Jon Rahm was about to go for his third major victory this weekend, but the former PGA star and current LIV golfer will have to wait a little longer for his next bid at lucky major No. 3.
In a stunner, ESPN’s Marty Smith reported on Tuesday that Rahm is withdrawing from the 2024 US Open because of a sore infection on two of his toes. The 2024 US Open will be held from Thursday at the Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina:
“2x Major Champion Jon Rahm has decided to withdraw from the US Open at Pinehurst, due to an infected sore located between the little toe and the next toe on his left foot, sources close to Rahm tell me. I’m told the infection is healing with antibiotic treatment, but Rahm remains in pain and does not want to compete in a tournament in which he does not believe he is physically capable of winning.”
Needless to say, fans were grossed out to hear about the painful-sounding injury for the former No. 1 ranked golfer:

It’s an unfortunate break for Jon Rahm, who had the opportunity to add to his legacy with a second victory at the US Open. He emerged victorious at the 2021 tournament (held at the Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California) as well as the 2023 Masters.
Though Rahm now plays for LIV golf, he’s one of the league’s more notable players who gets special exemption to play in the PGA majors. That list also includes Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed.
30-year-old Wyndham Clark is the defending US Open champion, having won last year’s tournament with an impressive score of -10.
Jon Rahm Will Get Another Opportunity To Win Third Major Next Month
The good news for Jon Rahm is that he’ll get another chance to win his third career major next month, when the field of golfers compete at the Royal Troon Golf Club (in Troon, South Ayrshire, Scotland) for The Open Championship (also known as the British Open).
The Open Championship will run from July 18 to 21. 37-year-old Brian Harman is the reigning champion, having shot a superb -13 to claim his first major.
