Scottie Scheffler was the name on everyone’s lips following his surprising arrest last Friday.
The world’s top-ranked golfer was taken into police custody ahead of the second round of the PGA Championship and, the way he tells it, had to do his stretches in a jail cell.
Scottie was attempting to make his way to the Valhalla Golf Club when he was treated to an unexpected ordeal. Traffic had come to a complete halt in the area due to a pedestrian being struck and killed, so he tried to drive around the scene of the fatal accident before he was stopped by a policeman and eventually arrested.
According to the lawman’s account, he had to jump onto Scheffler’s vehicle to get him to stop. He claimed he was dragged several feet, resulting in various injuries and irreparable damage to his pair of trousers.
ESPN’s Jeff Darlington recorded the golfer being led into a police car, which was about all we had to go on since Friday. However, the Louisville Metro Police Department released surveillance footage that tells a totally different story.
The video doesn’t show anything matching what the officer, Detective Bryan Gillis, described, though a bus somewhat obscured the view.
Thankfully, an alternate angle has also surfaced online. It doesn’t corroborate Gillis’ account either.

“This is the same cop that was “dragged” and “hospitalized” for his “injuries”?” a user wondered. “Yeah, okay.”
“I don’t see any dragging of an officer here. No body cam on either. Sounds like somebody lied on their police report,” another wrote.
Scottie Scheffler’s Arresting Officer Is Being Disciplined
Meanwhile, the City of Lousiana held a press conference on Thursday, during which LMPD chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel revealed that Gillis was being disciplined internally because his body camera wasn’t on.
“Detective Gillis did not have his body-worn camera operational ready. Our officer has received corrective action for his policy violation. We respect the judicial process, and we will allow the courts to proceed,” she said.
The charges against Scottie Scheffler haven’t been dropped, but it doesn’t appear they will hold up in court based on the footage.
