A fisherman was nearly killed in a marlin attack when a fish somehow jumped onto his group’s boat during a day out at the Gulf of Mexico.
The @fairhope_fishing_company TikTok account posted the video of the terrifying ordeal that nearly resulted in a fisherman’s death. As a group attempted to catch the big prize, the fish jumped onto the boat and came directly at the man, resulting in a horrifying marlin attack that was nearly fatal.
The seven-second video has quickly gone viral, with over 3.4 million likes on TikTok. As the men attempt to catch the fish while it splashes around, the marlin comes at the man in the blink of an eye.
The marlin comes at his head and knocks the man’s headset right off the boat. Fortunately, the man reacts just in time to avoid a terrifying injury (and potentially death), hitting the floor a split-second before the marlin falls back into the water:

Though a marlin attack on a human is awfully rare, it happens every so often and can result in death. In February 2022, a man was killed while fishing with a group of friends off the coast of India, when the marlin’s snout “attacked him through his stomach”, the Times of India reported.

Always Be Cautious Of Marlins & Potential Attacks
For folks who enjoy fishing, marlins and swordfish (in their regions) are among the biggest prizes they can catch. But if you’re ever out fishing for a marlin, you should always be cautious with them.
As you can see in this video, a marlin can thrash around quickly and strike when you least expect it. This is why they’re awfully difficult to reel in, even for some of the most experienced fishers.
Always be prepared for the idea of a marlin abruptly jumping and coming for your boat if you’re trying to catch them. These are awfully smart creatures who can quickly turn aggressive when you least expect it.
