UFC recently wrapped up its final PPV of the year, delivering top-notch action and leaving fans eager to see what future matchups will unfold. Building anticipation, the UFC announced a middleweight title rematch between Dricus Du Plessis and Sean Strickland. However, Du Plessis has now clarified his preference for a fight with Khamzat Chimaev, although he acknowledges that the rematch with Strickland is what fans want.
The middleweight title rematch is set for UFC 312 on February 8. Although Khamzat Chimaev was also a contender for the title fight, fans had been hoping for a showdown between ‘Borz’ and ‘Stillknocks.’ However, the UFC granted Strickland, a fan-favorite and former middleweight champion, the title shot. Recently, the middleweight champion took to X to clarify that he initially preferred facing Chimaev first. Du Plessis wrote,
“Just for clarification I preferred the Khamzat fight but the rematch is a fight most wanted before Khamzat vs Withaker. I’m not unhappy with the UFC’s decision like I said I’ll fight the man fans think is the next best guy he was promised the fight so Strickland it is.”
