Haliey Welch, the “Hawk Tuah” Girl, has been getting lots of publicity since her viral street video and, last week, made it to Rolling Stone.
The publication sat down for a breakfast interview with the new internet sensation, later publishing a piece in which she was referred to as the “National Hero We Need” in the headline.
“She went viral for a sex joke, but Haliey Welch is much more — a charming Gen Z Dolly Parton who’s rightfully becoming America’s Sweetheart,” the subhead reads.
The interview revealed quite a lot about Haliey, including the advice she received from NBA icon Shaquille O’Neal and the fact that she has zero contact with her mother.
“Not bad for a girl with only 15 minutes 🤠Thank you @rollingstone for being so sweet! 🍯❤️,” she wrote as the caption to a screenshot of the article posted to her Instagram page.
The internet didn’t appreciate the comparison to Parton, however.

“Comparing her to Dolly Parton is like comparing a Paris Hilton to Meryl Streep. Hailey’s 15 minutes will be over by Christmas. ⏳,” someone wrote.
“National Hero? The woman describing a sex act on the internet is now a role model… checks out,” another remarked.
“Hawk tuah doesn’t scream national hero and sweetheart to me rolling stone…” said a third.
“This says a lot about the state of society lol. Money is a beautiful outcome but a terrible intention, just keep that in mind,” someone else wrote.
“We’ve kinda all moved on, as you should too,” another comment read.
The “Hawk Tuah” Girl’s Post Also Attracted Lots of Positive Comments
Of course, there were plenty of positive comments too.
“Being a hater is one of my great joys in life but I haven’t yet found a reason to hate this lady,” a fan wrote. “Just seems like a sweet girl who accidentally struck gold.
“Nobody has brought a nation more together than Hay_Welch,” another user claimed.
“She turned a pissy angry shame filled internet and gave us all a breath of fresh air,” wrote another.
Hate her or love her, it doesn’t appear that the “Hawk Tuah” Girl’s going anywhere, though she will have a hard time shaking off the thing that made her famous as she insists she wants to be known for more than her coining of the phrase.
