December 5, 2023 – the date when Amanda Serrano vacated her WBC title after the organization rejected her plea to sanction fights of 12 three-minute rounds. April 6, 2024 – the date when Sky Nicolson claimed the vacant WBC title after defeating Sarah Mahfoud. Since then, the latter has been pursuing the unified featherweight world champion for a potential bout. However, receiving no response from Serrano.
Recently, Nicolson labeled Serrano’s “I don’t do callouts” comments as funny and a way of dodging the fight against her. While speaking in an interview, the 28-year-old Australian said,
“I found it quite funny. I don’t even think she said it’s not for her. And she doesn’t accept callout. she just completely dismissed the question altogether. It’s like she can’t even say my name. It’s quite funny. You kind of have to laugh at it a little bit.”
It is noteworthy that Serrano has been the spokesperson for twelve three-minute round fights in the women’s boxing division, while Nicolson has been supportive of the organization withholding its rules. The 28-year-old Australian, speaking on her challenge to Serrano, assured that she wasn’t disrespecting her. Instead, it was more of a respectful way to fight the “trailblazer” in women’s boxing.
Skye Nicolson Claims Her Fight with Amanda Serrano Will Never Happen
The unified featherweight world champion Serrano will next fight against Stevie Morgan in the Jake Paul vs. Mike Perry fight card at Tampa, Florida. While she acknowledged the fact that her coach fixes her fights, even Nicolson has made peace that she might never face the Puerto Rican in the boxing ring. The 28-year-old Australian said,
“I can beat her, and I do believe I’m the best featherweight on the planet. And that’s not being disrespectful. That’s me wanting to prove that I’m the best. I am bored of talking about her. I’ll be honest. I do not think the fight happens ever!”
A match between Skye Nicolson and Amanda Serrano would surely be a chartbuster. But it seems the unified featherweight world champion would never bypass her coach and accept a “callout.” However, fans can still hope to see the biggest woman boxing star face the rising star some day in the ring!
