Russian figure skating champions Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov were reportedly involved in the plane crash near the Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday night.
Sports agent Ari Zakarian told Russian news agency RIA Novosti that the former figure skaters, who were working as coaches in the wake of their retirement, were victims of the crash. It’s reported that their son Maksim was also on the plane.
Maksim had participated in the U.S. championships and was returning home with his parents.
At Least 14 Skaters Killed In Plane Crash
According to reports, at least 14 figure skaters, not counting coaches and parents, were victims of the plane crash. Authorities say no one survived.
Shishkova and Naumov won world pairs figure skating titles in 1994 and 1998. After retiring, they moved to the United States and coached pairs and single skaters.
Their son competed in men’s singles for the American national team.
