American sprinter Noah Lyles tied an impressive record that was previously held by none other than Usain Bolt.
Per Chris Chaves of Sirius Mag, the soon-to-be 26-year-old Lyles tied Bolt’s record for the most 200-meter races with times of less than 20 seconds. Lyles ran a time of 19.83 seconds at the NYC Grand Prix at Randall Island’s Icahn Stadium.
Lyles’ time of 19.83 seconds was good enough for first place in the men’s 200-meter race. He now just has to un one more 200-meter race time of under 20 seconds to hold the record for himself.
Since he’s only about to turn 26 years of age next month, time is definitely on Lyles’ side to break that record.
Lyles turned heads when he won two gold medals at the 2016 World U20 Championships.
The Gainesville, Florida native won a bronze medal in the 200-meter race at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. He also won gold in the 2019 World Championships for the 200-meter relay and the 4X100 meter-relay.
As well, Lyles has five gold medals at the Diamond League series. There, he claimed gold in the 200-meter races in 2017 and 2018, at the 2019 100-meter and 200-meter races and at the 200-meter race in 2022.
