Las Vegas Raiders superstar Maxx Crosby denied a rumor regarding now-former head coach Josh McDaniels, who was relieved from his duties last week.
Following a Week 8 road loss to the Detroit Lions on “Monday Night Football”, Raiders owner Mark Davis opted to fire McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler. The duo left Vegas with a disappointing record of 9-16-0.
Ahead of the Raiders’ Week 9 home game against the New York Giants, FOX Sports NFL insider reported something interesting on McDaniels.
According to Glazer, McDaniels got upset when linebackers coach and current interim HC Antonio Pierce referenced the New York Giants’ Super Bowl 42 victory over the New England Patriots during a team meeting. Pierce was a standout linebacker on that Giants team, and McDaniels was in his second season as New England’s offensive coordinator.
But during an interview on the Barstool Sports “Bussin’ With The Boys” podcast, Crosby claimed that the rumor about McDaniels getting upset about the Super Bowl 42 reference by Pierce was simply untrue.
“I don’t know where that came from, or where he heard that,” Crosby said. “He didn’t stand up and like (say) ‘AP, you can’t talk about the Patriots’. That’s false.”

Crosby did say that the team captains all stood up and voiced their honest feelings to McDaniels during the meeting. Regardless, the meeting obviously wasn’t impactful enough for McDaniels and Ziegler to keep their respective jobs.
Pierce was named the interim head coach, with Champ Kelly replacing Ziegler as the GM. The Raiders defeated the Giants 30-6 on Sunday afternoon to improve to 4-5 on the year.
