Leaf Trading Cards has been slammed for including the “Hawk Tuah” girl, Haliey Welch, in their 2024 Pop Century and metal set.
Welch, who’s found herself in plenty of unexpected places all because she described her go-to bedroom move with a phrase no one had ever heard before, is doing it all at the moment.
The internet sensation has since launched her own podcast and attracts thousands of new followers daily. She even has her own “Hawk Tuah” merchandise line, too.
The 15 minutes of fame has lasted much longer than many people thought it would, but Sports Illustrated’s Russ Gioseffi reckons Leaf putting her on trading cards is a tad much.
“Leaf saw an opportunity to capitalize on the now social media queen, and should have just left it alone,” he wrote in an article titled ‘Shame on Leaf, and Haliey “Hawk Tuah” Welch.’
“I understand the need to be relevant, to go after celebrities that have made an impact in today’s society, but all she has done…is come up with a catch phrase.”

Haliey Welch’s Viral Phrase Is Not Something Russ Would Want To Explain To His Child
That was hardly all Gioseffi had to say on the matter, noting that it would be a weird conversation between a parent and child if the topic of Welch’s trading card ever came up in a store.
“How does a parent explain to their 8 year old boy or girl who is walking down the aisle of their favorite sports card shop…stop and look at a Hawk Tuah autographed card,” he added.
“This is no longer a conversation of “who is the greatest hitter of all time” or “how many touchdowns did he throw”, or even “what is the greatest movie this person has even been in”. It is a whole different kind of conversation, one that I personally don’t want to have with my child.”
While many people would be willing to fork out cash on a “Hawk Tuah” trading card, some clearly feel there is no real reason for her to be on one, save the printing company’s attempt to leverage her success to make money for itself.
In any case, the decision has already been made. Haliey Welch trading cards are in circulation, you could either buy them or not.
