Joey Chestnut continues to dominate all challengers… Even those unexpected ones.
During this year’s Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, Chestnut not only beat the competition to earn his 15th career title, but he also took down a protestor who made his way onto the stage to try and steal some of the professional eater’s spotlight.
At one point during the event, a protestor wearing a Darth Vader masks and holding a sign that read “Expose Mithfield’s Deathstar” jumped onto the stage and bumped into Chestnut, who was in the middle of scarfing down one of his 63 hot dogs.
The interruption didn’t rattle Chestnut, though. He immediately sprung into action and took the protestor down with a chokehold before going back to his pile of hot dogs.
The next closest competitor to Chestnut this year consumed 43 hot dogs, which was 20 short of the champion’s mark. Chestnut won his 15th title on crutches, as the legendary eater took part in the event at Coney Island despite dealing with a ruptured tendon.
With 15 victories at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, Chestnut surpasses Rafael Nadal’s record for most championships at a single event.
