Wild story out of New York, as during a playoff basketball game between the Toledo Glass City and the Jamestown Jackals of the TBL basketball league, veteran referee of nearly 40 years John Sculli collapsed on the court due to a heart attack and nearly lost his life. Luckily for Sculli, one of the players on Toledo, Myles Copeland, is a firefighter who is trained to administer CPR.
Wasting no time, Copeland jumped off the bench and sprung into action, first checking for a pulse. When he did not find one he immediately began with CPR.
After over ten minutes, Sculli was finally resuscitated and actually wanted to continue with the game. Needless to say, he was not allowed to continue and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Referee John Sculli is lucky to be alive today thanks to the heroic actions of Myles Copeland. This is a definitely an example of being at the right place at the right time.
Oh, and in case you were wondering, Copeland also helped his team to victory to advance to the Elite Eight of the TBL. Myles Copeland, a true American Hero.
