Ice Wars International is making sports fans go nuts this week as the sport is mixing hockey fighting with a MMA-style ruleset.
Organized hockey fighting has become an actual thing and is encouraged. Over the weekend, Ice Wars International kicked off its first event of four in Edmonton with “professional and semi professional fighters at the top of their game in top fighting condition” who went head-to-head in minute long, two-round bouts.
It’s not a no-holds-barred event as rules state you cannot head-butt, bite, pull hair or knee your opponent. Also, combatants’ helmets and gloves must stay on at all times.
Fighters must wear MMA gloves alongside their full hockey gear!
