A teacher in Lubbock, Texas, is under intense heat after allegedly forcing more than a dozen middle school cheerleaders to perform a” malicious” punishment, which resulted in the students suffering burns on their hands and arms.
According to KAMC, thirteen cheerleaders at Evans Middle School are suffering from first and second-degree burns on their hands after they said their cheer coach made them perform “bear crawls” and “crab walks” on a hot outdoor track as punishment.
The 13 girls from Evans Middle School say they were punished because they performed a cheer that the coach called “disrespectful” and stated they did not want them to use during a football game.
The teacher/coach remains unnamed as of now.
That person forced the cheerleaders to do “bear crawls” and “crab walks” for a mile on the school’s track at 2 p.m. last week.

The outlet reported that the track’s temperature was at least 125F, citing one parent who measured the surface.
Parents of Evans Middle School Cheerleaders Speak Out
Recalling the distressing event, Angel Thompson, a parent of one of the cheerleaders, recounted: “I had asked [my daughter], ‘Are you okay? How was school? ‘She put our stuff down in the car, went to sit down, and said, ‘Mom, you want to know how my day was in cheer? ‘I said, ‘Yeah.’ She told me that they got a punishment, and shows me her hands.”
“We told her our hands are burning, and she said she didn’t care, and she made us go back down on the track,” one of the cheerleaders, who asked to remain anonymous, said.
The parents claim that the coach threatened the girls’ future in cheerleading to keep them in line if they did not complete the punishment.
Following the incident, many of the cheerleaders had to seek medical help from the school’s nurse.
What makes matters worse is that parents say the school did not inform them about their daughters’ injuries.
The cheerleaders suffered first and second-degree burns, with at least one being treated at the University Medical Center burn unit.
“It was malicious. It was intentional,” said the mother of one of the cheerleaders, who wished to remain anonymous.
