Dave Portnoy is one of the most well-known names in the world of sports media. The guy owns one of the most popular media sites in the world, as Barstool Sports is worth over $388 million as of August 2023.
Portnoy made an interesting decision in February of 2023 after selling the company for $388 million. The decision was deemed even more baffling after the media mogul decided to buy his company back for $1 in August of the same year.
After buying it back, Portnoy immediately jumped back into creating content for his franchise, and now, he is reportedly worth an astounding $150 million. But there is one issue with his worth: It could be gone any second now.
In an interview with Sage Steele in November, Dave Portnoy revealed that he and his wife Renee continue to share a bank account. Although they split back in 2017, they never actually got legally divorced.

Portnoy told Steele that loyalty was the main reason he allowed Renee access to his account, “we met when Barstool was nothing, so she rode the grind up with us … She was with me every step of the way, so in my mind, she’s entitled to enjoy the fruits of it.”
“She currently has access to all my money. If she just wanted to be like I’m taking it and be gone, she could. But we’ve had that joint bank account forever. I trust her implicitly. She has full access for a long time,” he continued before talking about how well they got along.

Portnoy and his estranged wife filed for divorce last year but were denied. “It was denied because she and I have a very fluid relationship with our finances,” Portnoy said, adding that they just agreed to do divorce without the court after Renee refused half his earnings causing the judge to deny the application.
While the money could be gone in seconds, it’s evident that it most likely won’t be, which is a sign of Renee’s continued respect for Portnoy. Odds are that the two will never be legally divorced, but for all purposes, they are divorced.
