It’s mid-2024, and combat sports have already been full of drama. Speaking of controversy, we had Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney this year. ‘Kingry’ took the win over Haney but later got busted for using PEDs before the fight, earning himself a one-year ban. Despite the WBC ban, Saudi’s Turki Alal Shikh has given the green light for the much-hyped Garcia vs. Haney 2.
After being banned, Garcia set his sights on a rematch with Haney to prove he could beat him again. However, His Excellency has agreed to it under one condition – Garcia must pass a drug test and resolve all issues on his end.
Turki Alalshikh stated, “First of all, I like this guy (Ryan Garcia), and second, I want to do a big fight with him. And he asked me to do the rematch between him and (Devin) Haney, and we want to see this fight. But I’ll tell you my situation now… I’m against drugs and everything, I said to Ryan Garcia – ‘you must pass the test and clear yourself’ and I’m waiting for you and this is fair.”
Alalshikh also mentioned that the fight would not be held in Saudi Arabia and that he respected the suspension. However, if Garcia sorts out his issues, they’re open to working with him. Consequently, a rematch between Garcia and Haney seems possible. In light of this fact, their last bout was one of the most hyped in recent times. And for boxing fans, since they not only have star power but also solid skills to back up their words, it makes it even more interesting.
How Did Ryan Garcia Defeated Devin Haney?
Ryan Garcia delivered one of the best performances of his career, winning the fight by majority decision after knocking Haney down in rounds 7, 10, and 11. However, on May 1, the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association notified all involved parties that Garcia had tested positive for Ostarine. On June 20, 2024, the New York State Athletic Commission changed the fight’s result to a No Contest.
