New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick gave a very typical Bill Belichick response when asked about his future with the organization.
Earlier this week, Patriots insider Tom Curran reported that the Patriots have already decided that they’ll move on from Belichick after this season. Curran heard that the Pats made this call after the club’s Week 10 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Germany.
When Belichick was asked about this report on Wednesday, the 71-year-old gave a signature Belichick response, via Patriots.com reporter Tamara Brown.
“Yeah, I’m getting ready for Kansas City,” Belichick said.
The Patriots (3-10) have already clinched their worst record since 2000, when the club went 5-11 in Belichick’s first year as their head coach. The organization didn’t have a single losing season from 2001 to 2019, when Tom Brady was the franchise’s starting QB.
But New England is now headed for a third losing and non-playoff season in four years. Furthermore, 2023 will mark the fifth straight season in which the club failed to win a single postseason game.

Belichick also serves as the Patriots’ de facto GM, but he’s failed to build a competitive team in the post-Brady era. At this point, it certainly looks like both sides would benefit from a parting of ways following the regular season.
If he does leave the Patriots, Belichick will not have a problem generating interest in the next NFL head coaching cycle. The Las Vegas Raiders, Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Chargers and Carolina Panthers are among the clubs that will need a new head coach for 2024.
