America is still reeling from one of its biggest tragedies in recent memory following the collision involving Flight AA5342 and an Army helicopter near the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on Wednesday night.
According to Nick Sortor, a similar incident was avoided just 24 hours prior. Another plane, AA4514, was forced to abort its landing and circle back because a chopper crossed its flight path while its pilot was attempting to land at said airport.
“ANOTHER American flight had to abort landing due to a helicopter crossing its flight path at the same airport,” Sortor shared in a tweet showing radar footage.
He added that the flight is currently being investigated.
Army Pilot Flying Black Hawk That Collided With Flight AA5342 Had 500 Hours Under Her Belt
The Army helicopter from Wednesday’s crash was manned by three soldiers, all said to be very experienced.
A female with over 500 hours of flying time is reported to have been the one operating. While the revelation has been met with criticism, a former army pilot with over 30 years of experience has said that the time is actually good because of how short helicopter flights typically are.
