Shakur Stevenson kept his undefeated record against Artem Harutyunyan, winning unanimously. However, the performances garnered immense criticism, particularly against Stevenson. Unsurprisingly, Ryan Garcia joined the mix in criticizing the Olympic silver medalist.
Stevenson had blamed Timothy Bradley and Mark Kriegel, the event’s commentators, for what he perceived was negative commentary. The assumption of the WBC lightweight champion didn’t align well with that of the former WBC interim lightweight champion.
Stevenson Criticized for Defensive Fight
Fight fans booed and walked away from the Prudential Center midway through Stevenson’s fight with Harutyunyan. Despite showcasing impeccable defense, the undefeated lightweight received more criticism than praise for winning. The Rio Olympic Silver medalist addressed the criticism on X.
“Tim Bradley starting off saying how he truly felt on the air and then the higher powers told him switch that energy up.. My boy Kriegal jumped in the ring and asked mostly negative questions cause the higher powers told him to do so, Tough game stay strong out here when they against u they gone send everybody at u to try and destroy u 💪🏾 #TheyCantStopGod’sPlans,” Stevenson tweeted.
Garcia had recently come under fire for his Islamophobic and racist comments on social media. However, he later apologized, citing Mike Tyson’s character. Nevertheless, ‘KingRy’ seems interested in making offensive remarks on social media. His latest tweet demeaned Stevenson’s boxing prowess.
“No Timothy Bradley just sucks your nutz everytime you fight, truth is he needs to be fired and should keep it 💯 with the fans. You aren’t like that buddy, everyone and I mean everyone knows you are terrified in that ring. You fight like a scared man and punch like a pu**y,” Ryan Garcia tweeted.

Rumors speculate Stevenson will face Gervonta Davis next, with the winner taking on Vasiliy Lomachenko, the IBF lightweight champion. Many consider Stevenson to have the best style to counter Davis’s explosive power.
Will the fight happen? Who knows? If it does, the unified champion will be the betting favorite to become the next undisputed lightweight boxing champion.
