Mexican boxer William ‘Zepeda is set to go up against his inaugural English opponent, former IBO world champion Maxi ‘Maximus’ Hughes, in a 12-round IBF/WBA lightweight world championship eliminator bout. The clash between Zepeda and Hughes aims to position them for potential shots at the lightweight titles, scheduled to take place at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on March 16. Additionally, Floyd Schofield will square off against Esteuri Suero in the co-main event.
William Zepeda vs Maxi Hughes Fight Details
Zepeda, with a perfect record of 29 wins since turning pro in 2015, gained attention when he defeated former world champion Joseph Diaz, causing damage to Diaz’s eye in the process. With 25 knockout victories, including one over Mercito Gesta, Zepeda aims to show he deserves a chance at a world title.
Hughes, who became a pro boxer in 2010, was previously the British lightweight champion. However, in his last fight in July, he controversially lost to former world champion George Kambosos Jr., which some people considered unfair and stopped his progress.
