Fans have reacted to Canelo Alvarez and Jamie Munguia swinging at the press conference.
After a lengthy period of negotiations, Alvarez has finalized his next opponent. The Mexican was previously seen in action against Jermell Charlo in September last year. Following the bout, a number of opponents were billed to be his next opponent and it looked like he would take on Jermell’s twin brother, Jermall Charlo next. However, the negotiations fell apart.
While fans urged Canelo Alvarez to fight David Benavidez, that fight didn’t get finalized as well and it was revealed that Alvarez will take on Jamie Munguia on May 4th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Ahead of the fight, a press conference was held recently which saw both fighters swinging at each other.
Well, they weren’t swinging at each other in real life, instead, they were given piñatas with their opponent’s face on it to smash. Take a look at the video below:
The video was quick to garner a lot of attention online and fans quickly flooded the comment section of the post with their reactions. Take a look at some of them below:

Why did Mike Tyson slam Canelo Alvarez?
Canelo Alvarez’s decision not to fight David Benavidez has garnered a lot of criticism from the boxing community. As mentioned earlier, fans and the pugilists have been eagerly waiting for this fight and Benavidez has certainly proven himself worthy of a shot at the title.
One man who seems to be incredibly frustrated by Canelo Alvarez’s decision is legendary heavyweight boxer, Mike Tyson. During an interview with Marca, Tyson criticised the undisputed super middleweight champion and said:
“What’s wrong with Canelo? Is he afraid of losing? Doesn’t he want to give the fans the fight they want to see? Don’t you want to give the fans the fight they want to see? Do you not respect the legacy of the great Mexican champions who faced the best regardless of the money?… This is a shame for boxing and Mexico.”
That said, it remains to be seen if we will ever get to see Alvarez lock horns against David Benavidez or not.
