The fight between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney has become one of the most controversial boxing matches of the year, sparking ongoing exchanges between both sides. On Garcia’s side, fans are hearing from boxing promoter Oscar De La Hoya, while Haney’s camp features Bill Haney, ‘The Dream’s’ father. In a recent buildup, Ryan Garcia sent a “spooky” message to Haney’s dad on the eve of Halloween.
Garcia defeated Devin Haney by knockout at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn this April. Unfortunately for Garcia, this win came with consequences: he received a one-year suspension for testing positive for ostarine, a performance-enhancing substance. Consequently, Haney filed a lawsuit against him in September, seeking damages for assault, fraud, and breach of contract regarding doping violations.
The commission not only suspended Garcia for a year but also fined him over $1.2 million. Recently, with Halloween approaching, Garcia shared a video on social media to taunt Haney, saying, “Spooky hours for Bill,” and added, “Hey, Bill Haney, happy Halloween. I’ve got something that’ll scare you.”
Haney has also shown interest in a rematch with Garcia, although it has not been confirmed yet. Meanwhile, Oscar De La Hoya, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, shared his perspective on the lawsuit, as Haney included De La Hoya’s promotion in the legal action. He mentioned that he could have provided Haney with the financial records at any time without needing the lawsuit.
Oscar De La Hoya Addresses the Devin Haney Family’s Legal Action Against Golden Boy Promotions
De La Hoya expressed his anger on social media as the Haney family intensified their lawsuit against Golden Boy Promotions, which he leads. This legal action follows the controversial April 2024 fight between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia, for which Bill Haney is seeking extra revenue and a complete financial breakdown from the promotion. In a video, De La Hoya stated,
“Enough is enough. Every fighter who has worked with Golden Boy has always been paid exactly what they are owed and given all documents they were entitled to. Period. Any suggestion to the contrary is simply false. If the Haneys are still having trouble understanding their contract, we will be happy to walk them through it, again.”

The Haney camp hasn’t responded, but reports say Devin Haney earned 47% of the fight’s profits. Both De La Hoya and Garcia have addressed the lawsuit online, but a rematch remains uncertain, leaving fans in doubt.
