Boxing fans have seen their fair share of bizarre endings, but this one takes the cake. On the undercard of the highly anticipated Beterbiev vs Bivol fight this weekend, something extraordinary happened. Ben Whittaker and Liam Cameron gave fans a moment that will be talked about for years.
Whittaker, the rising star with Olympic silver to his name, faced off against veteran Cameron. The bout was heating up nicely, with both men giving it their all. Then, in a twist worthy of a Hollywood script, chaos ensued.
As round five came to a close, the fighters got tangled up near the ropes. In a blink, they both tumbled over the top rope and onto the ring apron. The crowd gasped, then fell silent. Whittaker seemed to come off worse, clutching his right leg. He couldn’t stand on his own two feet.
With Whittaker unable to continue, the officials had to make a call. They decided to go to the scorecards. The judges had to score a phantom sixth round that never happened. It’s like asking someone to review a movie they haven’t seen yet. All three judges scored it 10-10 because, well, how else do you score thin air? When the final scores were announced, one judge had it for Whittaker, another for Cameron, and the third called it even. It was a split-decision draw!
Liam Cameron Believes Ben Whittaker Took This Fall As An Excuse To Not Fight
The recent bout between Whittaker and Cameron on the undercard of Bivol vs. Beterbiev was a slugfest for as long as it lasted. It had all the ingredients of a classic underdog story with an unexpected twist. As the fifth round drew to a close, chaos ensued. Both fighters tumbled over the top rope in a scene straight out of WWE. Whittaker ended up worse for wear and was unable to continue. Cameron, on the other hand, was ready to go.
But Cameron believes Ben Whittaker saw an opportunity and took it. He claimed the young prospect was looking for a way out. Cameron stated that Whittaker was running on fumes leading to the fifth round, and he was on his way to winning.

“He didn’t want no more. He had nothing left. The kid was knackered. I definitely beat him. 100% [he was looking for a way out], you can see it on camera,” said Cameron via DAZN.
The judges’ decision to call it a technical draw only added fuel to the fire. Cameron felt robbed, and he wasn’t shy about saying so. But to be fair, though, falling out of the ring isn’t exactly a leisurely activity. Whittaker might have genuinely been hurt. But in the heat of the moment, emotions run high.
