Heavyweight boxing recently witnessed the coronation of the first undisputed champion in the four-belt era when Oleksandr Usyk defeated Tyson Fury. Turki Alalshikh has scheduled the pair’s rematch for December 21 at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh.
However, boxing fans won’t have to wait long for another high-profile heavyweight matchup. On September 21, Anthony Joshua, the former unified heavyweight champion, will face Daniel Dubois, who almost defeated Usyk, for the IBF title vacated by the Ukrainian.
Intense Face-Off Sets Stage for IBF Title Fight
Preluding the fight announcement, Dubois and Joshua had an intense face-off outside the Wembley Stadium, where the pair will be in action in a couple of months. Dubois is coming off a TKO victory over Filip Hrgovic, winning the interim IBF title. On the other hand, Joshua is coming off a brutal knockout victory over Francis Ngannou.
The boxers had an intense face-off at Wembley. Dubois donned formal attire while Joshua was in casuals with both hands inside his pockets. Both didn’t blink throughout the face-off, a sign of the intensity of the matchup. Joshua has become a huge betting favorite over his 26-year-old counterpart, but Dubois had upset the odds in his last fight.
Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing and Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions, the respective promoters of Joshua and Dubois, have settled their difference, courtesy of Turki Alalshikh. Therefore, the matchup came to fruition rather easily without any hiccups.
The heavyweight title picture is now clear. The victor of Joshua vs. Dubois will surely be next in line to challenge the unified champion, Fury or Usyk, and potentially become the next undisputed heavyweight boxing champion.
