A UFC legend has speculated how Jake Paul could potentially open doors for a fight against Canelo Alvarez if he beats Mike Tyson.
Paul shocked the world earlier this month when he announced that he would be fighting Mike Tyson in the summer. The bout will take place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and will be broadcast live through Netflix worldwide on July 20th.
As the bout was announced, it was quick to be subjected to a lot of criticism. Many people questioned why Jake Paul would get in the ring against a 57-year-old retired boxer when he’s trying to earn his reputation as a ‘legitimate boxer’. However, despite his age, Tyson should not be counted out as he still has a lot of power.
Speaking about the fight during a recently uploaded video on his YouTube channel, Chael Sonnen speculated how Paul could fight Canelo Alvarez as a result of his fight against Mike Tyson. While suggesting that ‘The Problem Child’ could become a villain in the sport after potentially beating Tyson which could prompt Canelo to agree to a fight against him in order to “save boxing”.
He said:
“If Jake Paul can do a good enough job of smearing Mike’s face in it. Now to do that, he’s going to have to be extremely hated…If Jake made this a standpoint of, ‘I own boxing. I just showed boxing. I just stuck it to boxing’, there would be the door for Canelo to walk in and say, ‘No, you didn’t. I am now going to come out and I am going to save boxing’.

Dana White is not a fan of Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul
Among many notable names, the UFC president is also not a big fan of the upcoming fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul. White has been quite vocal about being concerned for Tyson’s health and believes he has no business inside the ring at this age.
However, it is worth noting that Tyson was last seen inside the squared circle in 2020 against Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition bout and he looked good for his age. That said, it remains to be seen how he does against Jake Paul on July 20th.
