Boxing fans were disappointed when the highly-anticipated bout between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder had to be postponed as a result of a Covid-19 outbreak in Fury’s camp. But we finally have some good news on the matter, as the two sides have come to an agreement on a new date.
According to an announcement made on Thursday, Fury will now defend his WBC and The Ring heavyweight titles against Wilder on October 9 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. This will be the third fight between the two, with the first ending in a draw back in December 2018, and the latest fight resulting in a 7th round TKO victory for Fury in February 2020.
Here’s what Fury had to say about the rescheduling, via TMZ:
“I wanted nothing more than to smash the ‘Big Dosser’ on July 24, but I guess the beating will have to wait,” said Fury, who, along with several members of his team, tested positive for COVID earlier this month.
“Make no mistake, I will be back and better than ever. We will fight Oct. 9, and I will knock him spark out!”
Fury was expected to move on from Wilder and fight Anthony Joshua this summer, but Wilder was able to win a court battle to ensure that he got one more crack at Fury’s WBC and The Ring heavyweight belts before the 32-year-old native of Manchester moved on to a new opponent.
