WBC heavyweight titlist and Tyson Fury has yet to suffer a loss in 34 professional fights, so now he’s trying to see if an MMA superstar would be a worthy opponent to take him down.
According to ESPN MMA insider Ariel Helwani, a fight between Fury and former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou is expected to be announced “very soon.”
Fury and Ngannou have publicly spoken about the fight before, taking to the ring together in April 2022 at Wembley Stadium, following Fury’s win over Dillian Whyte. The rules and conditions of the fight have yet to be revealed, though the likely outcome is a boxing match with no MMA elements.
Fury last fought in December 2022 after beating Derek Chisora via 10th-round TKO. The 34-year-old is undefeated with a 33-0-1 record and has held the WBC heavyweight title since 2020.
Ngannou has not fought since January 2022 due to a combination of injuries and his contract with UFC expiring. However, it should be noted that he has never faced a professional boxer in his life.
Ngannou left the UFC as heavyweight champion, becoming the first titleholder to do so since BJ Penn. Upon his exit, he stated that he planned to head to the boxing ring, and hopefully face Tyson Fury.
