Following one of the biggest fights in 2023, Terence Crawford declared he had no problem meeting Canelo Alvarez. Crawford had defeated Errol Spence.
Crawford would have to gain significant weight for the bout, but winning over the legendary Mexican boxer would bring enormous benefits and significantly improve Crawford’s reputation.
Crawford has been associated with several fights since stopping Spence last summer, but it is unclear what his next move will be.
Canelo defeated Jermell Charlo in September to keep his super-middleweight world belts, though it is unclear when he will fight next. One of the most well-respected voices in boxing, Teddy Atlas, has commented on the potential matchup.

Although many supporters urge Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to step up in weight to take on “The Mexican Monster,” David Benavidez, Terence Crawford is most likely Alvarez’s next opponent.
On August 3rd in Los Angeles, Crawford will square off against 154-pound fighter Israil Madrimov. This bout is historic for the boxing world since it is the first time promoter Turki Alalshikh, financed by Saudi Arabia, is hosting an event in the United States. Alalshikh has already stated that he hopes to schedule Crawford vs. Canelo by the end of 2024 if Crawford defeats Madrimov.
“You got two of the top fighters of this decade, not just in the past year or so,” the WBA, WBC, and WBO welterweight champion said. You got two fighters who’ve been at the top for ten years. You got the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world, and you got the No. 1 money man.”
The Kingdom is giving away boxing purses large enough to crush any roadblocks. Canelo, who weighed 168 pounds for the Munguia fight, is unaffected by Crawford moving up and fighting him. Canelo has also stated that, at this stage of his career, he is not chasing respect from fans who anticipate that he will face Benavidez at 175 pounds, but rather purses.
