When George Kambosos Jr. and Vasiliy Lomachenko square off for the vacant IBF lightweight world title on Sunday, live on Sky Sports, the former has pledged to force the latter into retirement.
The legendary Ukrainian Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs), who is in Australia attempting to win the lightweight world title twice, steps back into the ring for the first fight since losing to Devin Haney unanimously.

Lomachenko vs. Kambosos IBF Lightweight World Title Fight
When Kambosos was still the undisputed champion, a fight against Lomachenko was scheduled initially; however, the challenger famously withdrew to return and fight for his country against Russia.
Consequently, Kambosos fought American sensation Devin Haney instead, losing the rematch and all four gold straps before defeating Englishman Maxi Hughes to capture the IBO title in July last year.

With his thrilling 2021 unification upset victory against Teofimo Lopez having already established him as one of Australia’s most prominent boxing names, “Ferocious” is now preparing to rock the world once more when he challenges Lomachenko for the IBF and IBO lightweight belts inside Perth’s RAC Arena.
In an interview with Fox Sports Australia, the 30-year-old maintained that he would defeat the former three-division champion and win so decisively that Lomachenko decided to end his career.
“I’m extremely confident,” Kambosos said on Thursday. “I bring that confidence from my preparation. I’ve had a tremendous training camp. The confidence is higher than ever.
“When I beat Lomachenko, there will be no more road for him to go. This is retirement for him.”
The two had previously been on the verge of a battle on several occasions, but Lomachenko chose to leave his nation of origin after the Russian invasion just as their fight was about to happen.
