After being the Number one Pound-for-pound boxer, Terence Crawford earned the Best Boxer Award. But fans don’t seem to be happy for ‘Bud’ and found ESPY’s Boxer of the Year as controversial. He holds multiple world championships in three weight classes. The 36-year-old has one of the best records in boxing, but his recent award sparked backlash for Crawford.
Crawford had a historic 2023 season, defeating Errol Spence Jr. via TKO to become the first male boxer to win undisputed world titles in two weight classes. However, he hasn’t competed since July 2023, and his recent Boxer of the Year award has drawn criticism from fans, with one saying, “Lmao he didn’t even fight this year bro, I like him too but damn.”
One fan questioned the decision by posting a GIF of Naoya Inoue and writing, “Over this man?”
One fan said, “This has to be a joke.”

“Most overrated resume on the p4p list.”
One fan expressed disbelief about Terence Crawford, saying, “No fights in 2024, and a sub par resume. Absolutely not.”
One fan commented on other boxers being overlooked, writing, “Usyk and inoue robed”
Did Naoya Inoue and Oleksandr Usyk Get Robbed?
Naoya Inoue and Oleksandr Usyk are regarded as boxing legends with impressive statistics and achievements. Many saw Oleksandr Usyk as a top candidate for the award after he became the first undisputed heavyweight champion since 1999 by beating Tyson Fury in May. Others argued that Naoya Inoue deserved it as well.
Inoue matched Terence Crawford’s achievement by becoming a two-division undisputed champion in December, winning the super bantamweight title from Marlon Tapales. He defended his title against Luis Nery in May, winning by knockout in the sixth round.
The remarkable accomplishments of Inoue and Usyk have made them strong contenders for the title of best boxer. However, Terence Crawford was crowned as the best boxer, a decision met with some fan skepticism. This is not the first time boxing decisions have been controversial, as the sport’s judging process is often subjective and difficult.
