Negotiations are underway for Terence Crawford’s next major fight against Sebastian Fundora. Crawford’s management team has asked the WBO for a 10-day extension to continue discussions with the 154-lb champion. This extension is meant to finalize the fight. Although the bout hasn’t been confirmed yet, ‘Bud’ Crawford is already taking shots at Fundora.
After making history with a decision win over Israil Madrimov to become a four-division world champion, Crawford is now looking for his next challenge. Amid negotiations, ‘Bud’ took a jab at Fundora during an interview with Bernie Tha Boxer, confidently stating that he isn’t afraid of a fight with Fundora. He also mentioned that Madrimov knocked out the WBC & WBO champion in sparring.
“That’s a fight [that is] on the table. If Fundora’s licking his chops over my performance vs Israil Madrimov, then I should be licking my chops because Madrimov knocked Fundora out in sparring. So, who should be licking their chops? You know what I mean.”
Crawford is confidently approaching this fight, as he’s already defeated Madrimov, whom he considers a tougher opponent than Fundora. This is why he’s so sure of himself going into this matchup. However, many believe that Fundora could prove to be a more challenging opponent than Madrimov.
How Terence Crawford Defeated Israil Madrimov to Claim His Fourth World Title
Crawford once again proved why he’s the top pound-for-pound boxer, securing a unanimous decision victory over Madrimov in a close, hard-fought battle on Saturday to capture the WBA super welterweight title. Competing at 154 pounds for the first time, Crawford earned the title with judges’ scores of 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113.
Many speculated about a potential super fight between Crawford and Canelo Alvarez after this win. Turki Alalshik, the Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, expressed strong interest in making this fight happen. However, Canelo appeared less enthusiastic about the matchup.
