The desert heat is about to get even hotter this September as Jaime Munguia and Erik Bazinyan square off. This super middleweight showdown promises to be a real scorcher at Desert Diamond Arena in Westgate, Glendale, Arizona.
Munguia, the pride of Tijuana, Mexico, is looking to bounce back after a tough loss. He recently went toe-to-toe with the legendary Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas. But Munguia isn’t one to stay down for long. He’s eager to prove he’s still a force to be reckoned with. And what better way to do that than by taking on an undefeated contender?
Erik Bazinyan is an Armenian-Canadian fighter with a perfect record. He’s been making waves in Quebec, but now he’s ready for the big leagues. Bazinyan hasn’t tasted defeat in his professional career, boasting a 32-0-1 record. He now faces arguably his hardest fight to date.
This fight is more than just a test of skill. It’s a battle of comebacks and dreams. Jaime Munguia wants to prove he’s still championship material. Bazinyan aims to show that he belongs among the boxing elite. The bout will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN+. Only time will tell who will emerge victorious in this super middleweight spectacle. But one thing’s certain: anything can happen in the world of boxing. And that’s what makes it so thrilling.
Jaime Munguia Cuts Ties With Longtime Coach
Changing supplements, training regimens, training partners, or even promoters is common in Boxing. But changing coaches is a very rare occurrence. Jaime Munguia revealed that change recently that shook up his corner.
Munguia, boasting an impressive 43-1 record, is no stranger to making headlines. But it’s not for his knockout power or flashy footwork this time. The 27-year-old super-middleweight contender has parted ways with his longtime trainer, Erik Morales. The duo had been working together since 2019, racking up wins like they were going out of style.

But as they say, all good things must come to an end. The split came after Munguia’s close call against Sergiy Derevyanchenko in July 2023. It seems the nail-biter of a fight caused some friction in the camp. But there’s more to this story. Morales, it turns out, has been moonlighting as a politician. The former boxer has been a member of the Mexican Congress since 2018. He felt his political ambitions were getting in the way of his coaching duties.
So, Munguia needed a new corner man. Enter Freddie Roach, the legendary trainer who’s shaped champions like they’re made of clay. The new partnership got off to a flying start in January. Under Roach’s guidance, Munguia delivered a knockout so brutal it sent John Ryder into retirement.
However, after the Canelo Alvarez fight, Munguia signed back with Erik Morales. Fight fans will have to wait and see if this renewed partnership can allow him to end Erik Bazinyan’s undefeated streak.
