Sean O’Malley headlined UFC 299, defending his UFC bantamweight championship against Marlon Vera and achieving his inaugural successful title defense. O’Malley has shown enthusiasm for engaging in crossover super fights throughout his fighting journey. Earlier, he explored the possibility of a crossover boxing match against boxer Ryan Garcia. However, former UFC champion Kamaru Usman recently ridiculed O’Malley.
Former UFC Champ Kamaru Usman Mocks Sean O’Malley Over Ryan Garcia Bout
Usman recently appeared on his popular YouTube show, “Pound for Pound with Kamaru and Henry,” alongside Henry Cejudo, who is O’Malley’s rival. Usman advised O’Malley to concentrate on his UFC career during the show rather than pursuing crossover matches. He urged O’Malley to solidify his legacy in the bantamweight division.
Usman didn’t mince words on his podcast, “Pound 4 Pound,” where he criticized the idea of O’Malley facing Ryan Garcia in a boxing match. He questioned why such a notion was even being considered, highlighting the talent pool in O’Malley’s UFC division.
Usman said: “Sean O’Malley has a whole like literally one of the deepest divisions to even get through. You have one of the deepest divisions of contenders waiting for you.”
According to Usman, Garcia should rematch Haney and then focus on winning the belt in his weight class. After that, he could pursue a super fight with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis to seek redemption for his loss before considering a crossover bout with Sean O’Malley. Whether both fighters heed this advice remains to be seen, and only time will reveal their decisions. Until then, stay tuned for updates.
